Roan

I know we did an update on "Scruffy" aka Roan back around Christmas time, but he's made such progress since then that I just had to share.

We had a trainer come in to work with his separation anxiety - I don't know if I told you about this, but she pointed out that his anxiety may have stemmed from being crated. So we now keep him in the kitchen and give him a little bit of peanut butter in his kong when we leave - works like a charm.

He knows so many tricks now! He is the fastest learner ever - I think it's because he's so food motivated. Everyone's favorite trick, the one he likes to show off most, is high five! He gets up on his hind legs and smacks our hands with both of his front paws - more like a high ten.

His coat is WONDERFUL now - good skin and fur and nails and EVERYTHING.
We had him on Blue Buffalo for quite a while (he was having so many stomach problems so we went to the lamb) and he was doing fairly well on it. THEN - All of the sudden they completely changed their formula about a month ago - our little boy got very sick and we rushed him to the vet. She told us that it wasn't any kind of illness, so it must be the food. We hadn't put two and two together at that point, but when we got home we inspected the food - it looked totally different than before! We tried calling their customer service and emailing them - horrid. They never answer their phone or return emails - even with our legit questions. Other people online where saying the same thing - needless to say, we've been very upset with that company.

We've switched to the easy-to-digest chix formula by Nature's Recipe. AMAZING. His little tummy has been wonderful this past month and he's even stopped scarfing all his food down - we NEVER thought we'd see that happen.

Socially he's been better too - he's not so scared of men and he's learning about other dogs. We moved last month and he's got a MUCH larger house to play in and a backyard where he can play ball.

I thought I'd send you a picture, because he got his summer haircut yesterday. We've been working exclusively with a groomer who knows he has special needs - we still can't clip his nails without taking him to the vet. (someone must have REALLY hurt him when they cut his nails)

Here's the picture! Hope all is well and that people are adopting dogs left and right!
