After the exuberant reception Danni (aka Danika) received at the event at Legacy Village a few weeks ago, I wanted to send all of her friends at Marilyn's Voice an update on how she is doing. My daughter and I were in awe that so many people remembered her from last year. She clearly touched a lot of hearts and we underestimated how many kind folks played a part in her rescue and rehabilitation. Here is a picture of Danni from Halloween last night with my daughter, Audrey, her best friend. She sat outside with us giving candy in her costume to over 300 visitors and had a great time. She is still shy but refuses to be away from her family if she can help it. She travels with us everywhere and absolutely LOVES to snuggle. I have never met a dog that can actually hug you back.
Little Danni has had some health setbacks but has been an excellent patient and even conquered her fear of the vets office. For a dog with limited teeth, she is able to use that tongue to spit out pills no matter what we wrap them in (cream cheese is her favorite!). She also goes to a groomer regularly. We were fortunate to have worked with a trainer that helped us understand a dog like Danni needs special care. Once we understood her better, it helped us adjust to her pace. Since then, it has opened up her world.
Unfortunately, Danni lost her big sister, Heidi, in October. Heidi was our 13 year old boxer who held on long enough to teach Danni how to just be a family dog and enjoy life. As is the way of beloved pets, Danni is now her legacy of what love and patience can do. Next month our family is moving to South Carolina and this will start a new chapter in her life. Thank you to all of the volunteers at Marilyn's Voice for bringing Danni into our lives - it was a long road for her. We have been enriched for it.
Sincerely,
Tara L & Family
